Fall 2022 Book Club
Wednesday, November 16, 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
FreeIt’s probably a safe bet that at one point in your life you have found yourself shaking your head at something your parents were doing and thought to yourself, “I’ll never be like that when I’m older.” Here’s the thing, your parents said that about their parents, and your children will have those same thoughts about you one day (if they haven’t already!).
We invite you to join us on November 16 as the EFBC Book Club delves into these thoughts as we discuss Steven Petrow’s Stupid Things I Won’t Do When I Get Old: A Highly Judgmental, Unapologetically Honest Accounting of All the Things Our Elders Are Doing Wrong.
Upon turning 50 Petrow began compiling a list of "things I won't do when I get old" - mostly a catalog of all the things he thought his then 70-something-year-old parents were doing wrong. That list of do’s and don’ts, wills and won’ts became the basis of his hilarious, honest, and practical book.
In his book Petrow candidly addresses the fears, frustrations, and stereotypes that accompany aging. He offers a blueprint for the new old age and an understanding that aging and illness are not the same. As he writes, "I meant the list to serve as a pointed reminder - to me - to make different choices when I eventually cross the threshold to 'old.'"
Pick up your copy (maybe get one for your kids too) and join our host Private Vista from 5:30 to 7:30 on November 16. Getting older is a privilege. Our November book selection will help show us how to do it with grace, wisdom, humor, and hope.
