Fireside Chat Series – Name, Image, Likeness

Thursday, February 8, 2024 @ 4:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Free – $150.00

Welcome to the Second of our Fireside Chat series, intimate evenings featuring an in-depth conversation with Chicagoland business leaders facilitated by an EFBC Strategic Partner. Our Fireside Chats are limited to just 42 participants to generate conversation and connections that extend a level deeper.

Join us on Wednesday, February 8th at The University Club Chicago - Library to dive into the benefits and challenges of marketing strategies based on Name, Image, Likeness. (NIL) Strategic Partner Eric VanderPloeg from Burke Law will welcome Jahvae “Jay” Giddens from Purdue University and Megan Jerabek from von Briesen to look beyond headlines to give a true understanding of the complexities of NIL.

Jay Giddens is the Director of NIL Engagement for Purdue Athletics and is responsible for internal and external NIL concerns for Purdue Athletics. Jay provides student-athletes with educational sessions and on-demand assistance with topics including tax implications, financial literacy, database training, and brand management. Jay provides education on Name, Image, and Likeness to the local and surrounding communities with the goal of educating businesses and individuals on how to utilize Name, Image, and Likeness.

Megan Jerabek is the Chair of the Sports Law Section of von Briesen and represents professional athletes on various legal matters. Megan previously interned in the legal department at Nike where she worked with the company’s sports marketing division on licensing, endorsement contracts, and special events. In addition to her work in this field, Megan also works in business succession planning, trust and estate planning and administration, real estate leasing, and more.

Erik VanderPloeg is a partner at Burke, Warren, MacKay & Serritella and is a member of the firm's Litigation, Automotive Franchise, and Consumer Financial Services Litigation practice groups. Having started his career as a litigator, he has handled an array of commercial matters in both state and federal court which range from simple contract disputes to complex commercial and business disputes.
