President’s Message – Engaging The Next Generation

As I write this month’s letter, I am aching for spring. Since the groundhog did not see his shadow last week, perhaps spring will be here sooner rather than later.

I have applauded the efforts of all of our committees over time, but I want to focus on our Young Leaders Committee and the traction it has within our organization. With Jackie Bone and Phylicia Sakelaris as co-chairs, the socials, workshops and events have been very well attended and have produced useful information and takeaways that can be thoughtfully put into practice.

I was once a young person finding my way in the family company. The Young Leaders Committee wasn’t around yet back then, but I was relying on the EFBC and my Forum to navigate the sometimes tough and challenging situations that inevitably come up. I know for sure that those resources got me through in the best way possible. Sometimes I made great decisions and sometimes I did not. But I learned from each and every “test”, and I think I passed! Having this committee for our next generation members is so exciting and I am happy that it is taking off so well.

We hit the highlights of last month’s Financial Planning Workshop in the newsletter below. And don’t forget about the Young Leaders workshop on February 18th which focuses on Succession Planning for the next generation (featuring Jonathan Michael of Burke, Warren, MacKay & Serritella).
