President’s Message – How to Thrive: Get Involved

My son Jimmy and I were watching a series on Netflix called World War II in Color (we both love history). At one point, Winston Churchill came on the screen and the narrator was, of course, quoting him. It made me think of one of my favorite Churchill quotes and a theme for my third President’s message:

“If you have an important point to make don’t try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time – a tremendous whack!”

Well, it’s my third message. So how about a tremendous whack and some shared experiences over the past month on the themes of thanks, evolving and family.

A big THANK YOU to the Forum Sub-Committee. They are the protectors of Forum protocol and emotional intelligence, which is the life blood of successful Forums. They don’t meet often, but when they do, A LOT gets done that makes EFBC unique and safe. This group runs Community In Forum and educates our moderators - all behind the scenes. I had the wonderful experience of being in this committee the past three years and I visited it this past month as their wheels keep turning.

In August, we had the 2nd Annual dinner to introduce the new Executive Council to EFBC’s Past Presidents (see photo below). It was very moving to witness the involvement of these giving people over the years. Their updates and shared experiences were such a bonanza of knowledge for myself, Jeff, Al and Mark. I couldn’t help but think that all those Presidents started by volunteering to help. Evolve by getting involved!

Last but never least, family. Short point here because I must wrap up to go coach my daughter’s 8th grade basketball team. I love spending that time with my kids and their friends. We may have lost our first game last night but I know I won because of all the memories built spending time with FAMILY.

Have a wonderful September, enjoy your executive retreats, and don’t forget to invite prospects to WITT on September 26th!
